Winsford is a town in the North West of England with a population around 35,000 in 2023. In the 2001 census there were 22,500 people so we have grown a lot 568 new people per year in 22 years.
We are part of Cheshire West and Chester County Council and we have a local Winsford Town Council.

The town is in the centre of the County of Cheshire; 17 miles east of Chester and 20 miles west of Macclesfield. We are to the south of Liverpool which is: 40 miles away and Manchester: 30 miles and is located to the North of Crewe: 12 miles, and Stoke: 25 miles. Our designated hospital is Leighton Hospital in Crewe.
Winsford.gov.uk says: “Winsford only became a town – as such, in 1894, but it is the successor to a long and distinguished history. The two main parts are Over and Wharton, which are separated by the River Weaver. Both settlements were mentioned in the Doomsday Book in 1086. “Over” is a pre Roman name indicating a settlement on a hill.”

In 1959, following a few years of decline, Winsford entered into an agreement to provide new social houses for the Manchester population (even thought there is no train link to Manchester our nearest big city). The expansion masterplan envisaged Winsford to grow to a population of 60,000. We also had an influx of people from Liverpool after 1960, there is one train per hour to Liverpool. The plan for the town was not fully implemented.
The Town Centre is currently getting a makeover. https://participatenow.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/winsford-town-centre-plans.
